Membership

The Ruby offers two tiers of membership: FULL and COMMUNITY. Memberships may be paid either monthly or annually. For monthly memberships, a minimum commitment of 6 months is required.

The Ruby is a community-run work and event space. As part of your Ruby membership, and in order to better know your fellow Rubies, you must also commit to staffing 3 hours at the front desk or helping with 1 event per month

The Ruby is a space for nonbinary, transfeminine and woman-identified creatives to enjoy the camaraderie and congeniality of one another. We reserve the right to only accept applicants who we believe will contribute to, and not take away from, the private and intimate atmosphere of our space.

Full

$2,000/year; $200/month (plus one-time $75 registration fee)

FULL members of The Ruby receive full access to The Ruby's regular weekday workspace, and admission to all events. (Please note that the seating is open and first come, first served; we do not provide dedicated desks.)

A full membership at The Ruby includes:

(Friday lunch from noon to 1 p.m. & happy hour from 5:30 to 7 p.m. do not count toward your 2 drop-in days.)

Creatives in Residence

We have a select number of annual Creatives in Residence opportunities. This program is designed to offer QT and/or BIPOC creatives the space to create new work and immerse themselves in the Ruby community. To learn more, visit here.

Scholarships

Scholarship rates for both full and community memberships are available to teachers, students, veterans, and single parents. (We especially encourage QT & BIPOC candidates with financial need to apply.)

The scholarship rate for community membership is $70 per month; the scholarship rate for full membership is $150 per month. The one-time registration fee is reduced to $25. The monthly commitment of 3 hours or 1 event per month still applies.

The Ruby is committed to building a community that represents the diversity of the artists, writers, and creatives of the Bay Area and reflects the economic realities of the region and creative industries. We are proud to provide scholarship rates, work/trade, and creative residency opportunities to our members while attempting to keep the lights on as a member-sustained organization without an endowment, VC funding, or corporate sponsorship. Please be mindful that if you request a scholarship when you can afford a membership, you limit the access of those who need the financial flexibility.

To apply, please fill out the appropriate membership form above, and specify your interest and eligibility for a scholarship rate.

Lifetime

We also offer Lifetime memberships. Lifetime memberships help support our commitment to low membership fees and keeping the arts in San Francisco. In addition to a lifetime of full membership, this level of support includes a scholarship in your name. Email staff@therubysf.com to inquire about lifetime memberships.
